#1718 quiltalong...

Am learning a lot making this quilt. Have discovered that I may be the slowest applique sewer in the world. While quite absorbing, even relaxing to sew, making these blocks I could literally feel myself aging:) Of more importance, I've learned that I should never trim a block late at night and/or when tired. Managed to trim an extra 1/8" off two sides of one of them and at an angle no less. Am hoping that when it is all put together that the busyness of the quilt disguises all the errors. Whingeing aside, this top is fun to make and it is amazing to see all the different fabrics people are using. Search for 1718 Quiltalong on Facebook and join in. You know you want to...

1718 coverlet madness...

Having bought this book by Susan Briscoe when it was first published, I was pretty sure it would be filed under "inspiring to look at" but "there is no way am I ever going to make that quilt". That is, until the charismatic and inspiring Sarah and Amy decided to host a Quilt Along. I have a bad track record with this kind of quilt as my unfinished orphan Farmer's Wife blocks will attest. But after months of sewing crazy improv pieces, I really feel the need to make sure that I can still sew small and precisely. Have finished February blocks and am on to March. The fabrics are Liberty Marylebone, Bloomsbury, and Denyse Schmidt among others with lots of shirtings. Making these blocks is simultaneously aggravating and addictive. You can join in the fun by searching for the group on Facebook. Hope to see you there!
